Many young women think they’re infertile

It seems to be a common theme: you spend a majority of your young adulthood trying to not get pregnant, but when you’re ready to conceive you find out that it’s just not as simple as you thought.

The chance of a normal, healthy couple getting pregnant during any cycle is about 25%.

A couple isn’t considered to be infertile until they’ve tried unsuccessfully to conceive for one year.  However, most couples are impatient and believe they’re infertile before they’ve reached the one year mark.

In fact, a recent study published in the March issue of Perspectives on Sexual and Reproductive Health found that 19% of women between the ages of 18 and 29 think they are infertile.

Men feel the heat too, with 13% of men believing they are infertile.

The actual female infertility rate in the United states is only around 6%, suggesting that many women worry for nothing.
