Public unaware of prevalence of infertility

Many people in the U.S. are unaware of the prevalence of infertility.  In celebration of National Fertility Awareness week, The Fertility Centers of Illinois conducted a survey to evaluate people’s fertility knowledge.

The findings were significant, with 82% of people not knowing that infertility affects up to 1 in 6 people.

Another troubling finding was that 68% of people did not know that infertility affects men and women equally, which may lead men to avoid fertility testing.

Finally, a number of people were unaware that not only does fertility decrease past the age of 35, but that different fertility standards apply to women in this demographic.

These results reveal the importance and need for infertility education, as many people may delay seeking treatment out of lack of knowledge on the subject.
