India begins fertility plunge

India is yet another country posting fertility rates that are below replacement levels (an average of 2.1)

In fact, 24 districts reported fertility averages below 1.5 children per woman.

Low fertility levels have been observed for some time in industrialized nations like China, Japan, Germany, and Russia.

Many Indian states still report fertility levels of about 4 children per woman, but the trend still seems to be that of declining fertility rates.
