Children diagnosed with cancer often face an unknown fertility future, as many of the chemotherapy drugs used for treatment are known to be high-risk for loss of fertility.
A recent study published in the journal Deutsches Arzteblatt International found that up to 30% of all pediatric cancer patients are infertile as a result of their cancer treatments.
The study collected data from over 2,700 patients, of which 1,476 were treated for a leukemia subtype and the rest for solid tumors.
A total of 210 patients agreed to undergo fertility testing. Up to 30% of the patients were found to have some level of infertility.
