Younger women having children in the Philippines

The 2011 Family Health Survey (FHS) conducted by the National Statistics Office (NSO) in the Philippines has found that more young women are having children.

The live birth rate for women 15-19 years old women has increased from 34 per 1,000 in 2006 to 46 per 1,000 in urban areas.

The fertility rate has also increased from 126 (urban) and 181 (rural) births per 1,000 women in 2006 to 134 and 190 in 2011.

The peak age group for childbearing has decreased, from the 25 to 29 age group to the 20 to 24 group.
