Vitamin D & fertility

Most people know that Vitamin D is an essential nutrient for optimal bone health. However, people may not link their fertility with Vitamin D. In order to maintain sufficient amounts, humans can produce the vitamin through skin exposure to the sun.

A recent study showed that sunlight promotes fertility in men and women by increasing their levels of vitamin D.

It’s believed that an increase in vitamin D will balance sex hormones in women and improve male sperm count.

In fact, the female sex hormones progesterone and estrogen were increased 21% and men displayed increased testosterone levels.  Testosterone is essential for sperm production.

Sun exposure is linked to skin cancer.  So if you’re leery of getting too much sun, you can instead get your vitamin D from a number of dietary items or nutritional supplements.
